Your Emotions Are Messengers
Your emotions are trying to communicate with you. Are you listening?
If you identify as a deeply feeling human, empathetic and sensitive, I’m sure, like me, you have spent your lifetime navigating the endless ebb and flow of your emotions.
I used to feel at the mercy of my emotions and often felt like they were bigger than me. Something I had put on a pedestal that was out of my reach and control. Soon, I came into contact with the magical modality of Kinesiology (that I now have the pleasure of practising) and fell in love.
During my first session, the Kinesiologist I worked with identified and connected my physical symptoms with emotions I had been carrying and subconsciously suppressing. What I didn’t realise at the time was that emotions are energy felt in the body. Energy naturally likes to be in motion, so when we avoid or suppress our emotions, they can become stuck and blocked in the body, eventually manifesting as physical symptoms.
If you’re someone experiencing lingering or persistent health concerns, I invite you to dive a little deeper and ask yourself, what emotion am I avoiding?
The reason we can fall into the habit of avoiding emotions is because we carry a limiting belief that we are not capable of navigating and processing them. In my six years of working as a Kinesiologist and holding space for my wonderful clients to process their emotions, I have discovered these are some of the main limiting beliefs people hold when it comes to emotions:
“Sitting in the discomfort of my emotions makes me feel unsafe”
“I do not feel capable of navigating and coming out the other side of my emotions”
“If I fully lean into my emotions, I will lose my sense of control”
“I don’t have the tools, skills or time to nurture myself through my emotions”
“Feeling my emotions makes me weak and vulnerable, which can open up the possibility of getting hurt or feeling disappointed”
Do you resonate with one or a few of these?
If so, you’re definitely not alone. We live in a world where we aren’t taught about the power of our emotions, or the importance of allowing them to be fully expressed in healthy and supportive ways.
Something else I have discovered through my own inner work, and through my kinesiology practice, is that we all have a unique selection of emotions that we individually find most uncomfortable or challenging. Often, these are tied back to experiences in childhood when we weren’t given the space, safety or guidance to express them. So instead, we learnt it was easier to suppress, avoid or disconnect from them entirely.
Like I mentioned earlier, your emotions are simply energy being felt in the body, and energy likes to move. The sooner we can identify, accept and process our emotions, the more naturally they can flow on.
The most empowering way we can begin to accept our emotions is by reminding ourselves that they have arisen for a reason, and are trying to communicate something to us. Once we can identify that message, we can use our emotions as guidance and tools for living a more fulfilling and conscious life.
Here are a few messages certain emotions are often trying to highlight:
Disappointment illuminates your unmet expectations
Grief invites and teaches you the beauty of surrender
Anxiety gently brings you back to the present moment
Jealousy highlights your desires
Boredom opens space for creativity
Resentment shows you where you may need stronger boundaries
Shame reveals the parts of yourself that are asking for acceptance
See how, by uncovering the hidden message within our emotions, we can begin to identify areas for inner growth, actions we may need to take, and mindset shifts we can make. These often intimidating emotions can start to feel more manageable, and even empowering, as you learn to work with them rather than against them.
So I invite you, next time an uncomfortable emotion arises, to gently ask yourself… “What is this emotion trying to communicate or highlight to me?”
